Rules I've Made Lately

I know moms of 2 year old can probably relate to this...I make the oddest rules. I have to. It's things I've never thought about before. Things like:

- Don't lick the dustpan

Do not empty the vacuum bag onto the floor...and if you do, don't eat peanuts you find inside.

Do not drink water you scoop out of the sink. (The dishes are soaking in there)

Making toys jump is the same as throwing them and you'll still get in trouble.

I've also come to realize why my mother pretended to change her name...I loved the sound of "mama" when it

first came. Now I'm considering changing my name to something crazy like Methuselah.

What are some odd rules you've made lately??

Another photo contest! This theme was food!

It's a bit blurry because he wouldn't sit still! I only got him to look up because I yelled "Stinky Butt" and it surprised him...

Go Vote!!

Progress Photos

I'm SUPER proud!

I'm getting sleek lines and toned muscles! You want to see a MAJOR change?

Okay, how did I do it?

I have a Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD that I do sometimes. I also do a lot from the Exercise TV website.  AND I had my Shakeology for a good part of the month (before I ran out giving samples)

This month, however, we're starting P90X.  THOSE photos will be extreme!

Fitness Plan for the week

My sponsor (and friend) Sarah inspired me to plan for the week!

I recently tried Level 3 of The 30 Day Shred. I can do it...heavily modified. So I'm going to change things up this week. Until I get P90X I'm stuck with 30DS and Exercise TV!!

Monday: 30 DS Level 2
Tuesday: Bootcamp Body Makeover Advanced from Exercise TV
Wednesday: 30 DS Level 1 (with little to no modification)
Thursday: Bootcamp Body Makeover Advanced
Friday: 30 DS Level 3

We'll see...but that's the plan!

Hindsight is always 20/20...

I realize now that it was there the second he was born.

- The nurses thought it was odd that he didn't cry when he got his vitamin K shot at birth.
- They had to MAKE him cry to get his Apgar.
- He didn't flinch when they did his PKU stick.

I joked that he was tough like his Daddy.

- He fought being swaddled...he HAD to have his hands free. (At a day old)
- He would only sleep facedown on my chest....until he got older and was so heavy I couldn't breathe.
- The only way to get sleep in chunks longer than 30mins was to have him in bed next to me. Even then he only slept an hour at a time...until 6 months and he "graduated" to 2 hours at a time.

I'm justified it by saying that I'm not a good sleeper and poor thing must have inherited my insomnia.

- If we went out to eat it couldn't be busy...and God Help Me if someone had a birthday. We'd have to eat fast or the screaming would start.
- He spent most of his life diaperless because a wet diaper meant screaming bloody murder.
- I would spend hours on my feet walking or hours in the glider rocking because it was the only way he would nap.

I learned about "high needs" kids and saw a lot of my son in it.

- He falls down and I hold my breath...will he laugh and shrug it off or will this be a screaming fit?
- I have to wipe his hands numerous times during dinner...he falls and gets dirt on his hands and screams until you wipe them off.

He's quirky. He's unique.

- Night-weaning takes a month. A month of no sleep and screaming for hours.
- Nothing helps him sleep...I do EVERYTHING that's suggested to me...routine/no routine, noise machine, dark room, aromatherapy...and bedtime is still an hour of screaming. Or...
- We let him sit on the couch until 10pm when he passes out sitting up.

High Needs. Spirited. Insomnia. That's it, right?

- He jumps off the couch and crashes to the floor. That can't be comfortable and it sure isn't safe. And try as I might I can't.make.him.stop.
- There are no clean bottles and I try to give him milk in a cup. He starts screaming hysterically. This goes on for at least 10mins...I even wash a bottle and fill it with milk but by then he's too far gone. His breathing is ragged, he's gagging, he's bright red...I cry with him because it's painful to watch.

My depression gets worse. My anxiety goes up. I frequently sit in the shower and cry because deep down I know that something isn't right.

Now I know...something WASN'T right. He has Sensory Processing Disorder. It's actually pretty mild...but when you're in the middle of things it doesn't seem like it.

So when you see the kid screaming in the high chair, see the mom updating Facebook again about how overwhelmed she is, or hear the kid screaming in the grocery store don't judge. I'm doing the very best I can.

Monday Cleaning...Where did I get this energy?

I have NO idea what happened...but I woke up with energy. Not a ton of energy...but enough to clean house!

This morning I tackled the kitchen. I didn't have time to take pictures (I had the kids entertained and didn't want to waste a moment of that) but I can tell you it looks awesome.

-Clean counters
- Dishes ran (other dishes are patiently waiting)
- Clean stove
- Everything put away
- CLEAN FLOORS (I got down and scrubbed them by hand. Blame my mother..."You can't see dirt from 4 feet up!")

I also cleaned the dining room. That was easier.

- Cleared the table
- Wiped said table
- Swept
- Spot cleaned the floor

And THEN I started a load of laundry (which, now that I think about it, needs to be rotated)

After all that I did a couple of business calls. It was about 4-5 hours of work...but it was well worth it.

What awesome thing did you accomplish today? Leave a comment below and tell us about it!

A couple of Shakeology Recipes

I recently started drinking Shakeology. It's really good, really sweet!

My favorite way to drink it is to make a chocolate mocha.
- 1 packet Choc Shakeology
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup cooled coffee
- Chai seasoning (optional)
- Ice to thicken (optional)

Run it through a blender until the ice is crushed! It's really really good. Because raw milk (the only milk we drink) is 160 calories a cup this breakfast is 300 calories...BUT you also get all the neat nutrients in Shakeology!

The smoothie I'm having this morning involves the Greenberry.
- 1 packet Greenberry Shakeology
- 1 cup milk
- 1 banana
- frozen smoothie cubes (until it's the consistency you want)

Again, SO GOOD!

Who knew something GREEN could taste sweet? AND something chocolate could actually be good for you!

Recipe Experiment: Meatballs and Mushrooms

This was another I just came up with on my own...

I made meatballs (ground beef, breadcrumbs, raw soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, green onion, mushroom stems) and seared them quickly in a pan.

I preheated the oven to 350F. I took the stems out of some mini portabello mushrooms and placed the caps in a muffin tin.

I put a meatball over each mushroom cap and put it all in the oven. Cook until the meatballs are cooked through.

Recipe Experiment: Mexican Chicken with Roasted Veggies

No pictures...sorry. We were HUNGRY!

I chopped several veggies. Onion, bell pepper, zucchini, eggplant, avocado, tomato, and carrot.
I mixed some balsamic vinegar, raw soy sauce, Dijon, garlic powder, dash of cayenne, pepper, and a dash of chili powder. (Do it to taste)
I put the chopped veggies in a bag and poured the mixture over and covered the veggies. Pop them into a 450F oven for 35 minutes and stir once.

Earlier in the day I put a tomatillo, a handful of cherry tomatoes (seriously, a handful), onion, a splash of chicken broth, and some Mexican seasonings in a blender.
I skinned chicken thighs and put it all in a bag to marinade during the day.
I coarsely chopped some green onion and cooked it all in a pan (with the juices) until the chicken was cooked through (I added more broth at one point...that's up to you)

It was honestly easy! More experiments to come!!!

This Love is Free

One of the neatest conversations I had as a teenager was with my mom and brother in some little restaurant. I can't remember how we got on the topic, but we were discussing Love. Every "love" we put out for discussion had some sort of stipulation attached.

You can't love your husband if you never meet him.

You can't love your kids if you never have them.

You can't love your mom if you're never born.

And so the conversation went. You wouldn't think that a topic like this could keep everyone's interest for a long time, but it filled time until the food came.

There was one kind of love that we decided was, in fact, totally free.

God's Love.

He loves us no matter what. He loved us before we were born. There are NO stipulations attached. No rules. Nothing.

Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart...
