On the Bandwagon...Judge Adams

There's an article (with additional links) here

Before I say anything I'm going to lay down a few rules...

1) This is not a spanking debate. I will not turn this into a spanking debate.

2) This is my OPINION.

3) I'm not playing out the "He said, she said" aspect of this.

4) We are not doing the "I've seen worse" dance. I don't care that your mama used to beat you worse than that so you don't see what the big deal is...just because there's "worse" doesn't make it OKAY.

I'm going to say flat out that I disagree with what he did. He went too far, he broke a cardinal rule of discipline (doing it during anger), and I disagree with spanking teenagers ANYWAY. I believe that, if you choose to spank, there is an age limit (both upper and lower).

I also believe there are more effective ways to discipline a teenager. From what I've gathered this incident was due to her downloading music illegally. Fine, if that's a rule in your house then follow through. I've also gathered that this was not the first time she'd done something like this...

Then why is there still a computer in her room? (It's obvious at the start of the video) If she can't control herself with her computer then why does she still have it? That would have been my FIRST reaction: Remove Computer! There's also software you can install that prevents downloading ANYTHING without authorization. Install that on your public computer.

If she STILL can't follow the rules lock the computer and put a time limit on the access...or cut off access totally. No, no one NEEDS the computer.

Does she have a cell phone? Take that away! TV time? Nope! Friends? Nope!

Seriously, spanking is not the way to go with teenagers! There are better ways to make things stick...

Okay, those are my initial thoughts. Care to share?

Boob Tube Babble: New Shows

Boob Tube Babble

Shows I discovered this week are Grimm and Once Upon a Time.

I *really* enjoy these. I like that TV is going away from vampires a bit. It was really starting to get overdone. And I always enjoy a show that turns fairy tales on their ends. It's neat. I watched Tin Man and Alice on Syfy a few years back and enjoyed them!

Have you seen them? What did you think??

Last night's low starch dinner!

Dinner was anything but boring last night!

camera phone

I'll break it down. (Yes, I understand that I do NOT sound cool when I say that)

Porkchops: Butterflied and cut in half (so two butterflied chops makes 4 little ones) I seasoned them with salt, pepper, oregano, and curry (the last on one side). The curry was on a whim but it was really good! I just pan seared them over medium heat. Keep the lid on the pan and it cooks faster. I took them off when the inside reached 165F.

Steamed Broccoli: That's pretty much it. I did end up adding a bit of cheese to it...

Quinoa Stir Fry: This is the fun one. First I put the quinoa on to start cooking. Then, I chopped up bacon into small pieces. I don't know how many strips I used...it was leftover and a lot. I fried that in another pan until it was nice and crispy. When that was done I added chopped mushrooms to the mix and cooked for a few minutes. Add some frozen corn (again, as much or as little as you want...I just did it for color so I didn't do a lot). When that's heated add half a can of black beans. I rinsed them before throwing them in there. Season with salt, pepper, onion, and garlic to taste. When the quinoa is done add that in and stir fry until well mixed. Adjust seasonings if necessary.

Done. Dinner took 20-30mins. It was low starch, high protein, and REALLY filling. Everyone loved it! Yes, that includes both of my boys!

Bounce!

My mother in law sent me this today and I thought it was full of awesome ideas! We don't normally buy dryer sheets (cloth diapers) but I might just for the bug repelling properties!

It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them. It also repels mice.

2.  Spread sheets around foundation areas, or in trailers, or cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.

3.  It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.

4.  It repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.

5.  Eliminate static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.

6.  Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling..

7.  Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.

8.  To freshen the air in your home - Place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.

9.   Put Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.

10.  Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.

11.  Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing.

12.  To freshen the air in your car - Place a sheet of Bounce under the front seat.

13.  Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agent apparently weakens the bond between the food and the pan..

14.  Eliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.

15.  Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.

16. Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds.. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.

17.  Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.

18.  Eliminate odors in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.

19.  Deodorize shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight.

20.  Golfers put a Bounce sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.

21.  Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. It will keep them smelling fresh.

22.  Wet a Bounce sheet, hose down your car, and wipe love bugs off easily with the wet Bounce.

Another thing? Buying one as you sign up to coach WAIVES the coach fee. And Shakeology is cheaper even after the coach fee!!

If I Re-did Reality Shows...

Has it really been a whole week since my last blog? Ugh, sorry about that! We have a teething baby and a toddler with strep! Thankfully we have Advil and antibiotics!!

So, I'm linking up today to talk about TV. Instead of telling you what I watched all week I'm telling you my thoughts on a couple of reality shows...and how I would fix them!

Don't get your hopes up...I edited this...

Top Chef is first on my list of shows that need upgrade. Seriously, I'd be a better cook too with the best knives and top shelf ingredients. $500 at Whole Foods to make ONE dish?!? Can I keep the $300 I don't spend?

I think we need a Moms Edition of Top Chef. A few rules would apply...

- No more shopping strictly at Whole Foods. You'll be given $100 TOPS and forced to choose between the corner grocery store, Farmer's Market, and WF. Most challenges you'll be given $25-$50. (Seriously, who spends more than that per meal for an average family??)

- Some challenges will have odd time constraints. Like, 5mins in you'll have to take 1min breaks every 2mins for 10mins to "break up a sibling fight." Or 10mins in the baby wakes up and you have to cook while holding a doll (and keep that doll safe from knives and splatters)

- You have to make a meal while allowing a toddler to "help" with prep and cooking.

- Challenge: You're assigned to bring treats for a playdate...one child can't have dairy, one can't have peanuts (which means no nuts ANYWHERE), and one can't have gluten.

- Halfway into cooking a random ingredient gets removed and you have to finish the meal without it...

I think it's MUCH more realistic and entertaining!

Survivor doesn't need realism (although, that *would* be fun too); it mostly needs a face-lift.

- No more clues to the hidden immunity idols. It's understood that one is at your camp. Go find it.

- Hidden immunity idol AT CHALLENGES! This would only work after the merge when the challenges are for individual immunity. You can choose to opt out and go one a search instead of participate in the challenge. You'll each be given a different clue and sent off to look. This would be good for short challenges.

I haven't thought it through as much as Top Chef. I think Survivor is on its way out as a show...or it should be.

What do you think? Would you watch my shows?

The Long and Short of it

Today I'm linking up with

Boob Tube Babble

I'm talking about TV intros today!

Remember when the theme song took at least a full minute of show?

Example: Full House

I remember seeing the opening credits for Lost and thinking "Wait, did we miss something?"

I can't decide if I like a longer or shorter opening better. If you have a cool theme song (like House or CSI) I'm probably going to be okay with listening to 60 seconds or so...But I do like just cutting to the show as well.

So, which do YOU like better?

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

That is my 9 month old CLIMBING...He already climbs the stairs.

That is my 2 year old, fully clothed, in the bathroom sink (yes, there was water).

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

As a mom (especially a mom of boys!) I need that extra strength. There are days when I'm ready to throw in the towel. There are days the Enemy wants me to resent having children. There are days when I literally need to run away...(I always come back!)

I can do all things [change yet another diaper, break up another fight, deal with more screaming, wake after another sleepless night, clean up another mess...] through Christ who strengthens me.

Yesterday's Run

Source
Monday night I did a dumb thing...

I was doing the moves from P90X Chest and Back without the video (I had them listed) I wasn't paying attention to my form and tweaked my neck. I quickly developed a huge knot right at the base of my neck. I took an Advil and went to bed.

Tuesday (yesterday) I woke up sore. I pulled out the Arnica, Tiger Balm, and Advil for the day. By the end of the day I felt almost 100% better and decided to go on my run. I planned to keep it short and easy.

And then I started running...

The burn in my chest and legs felt amazing. I could actually feel the muscles in my back and neck start to RELEASE as I ran. The stress of the day melted off of me with each step. I realized I was running pretty fast and tried to check my pace and actually couldn't make myself slow down.

I walked a bit and came up on one of the steeper hills in my path (my neighborhood is full of them). At that point the chorus for Crossfade's No Giving Up came on and I took it at a dead sprint. I made it halfway up before I slowed to a run to finish it out. The way back is mostly downhill and I took that at an easy run/jog.

I got back and started using the music to calculate how long I'd been out. I hadn't planned on keeping track so I rounded UP a lot (because it felt fair) I had to do the math twice...each time it came out to less than 10mins.

This morning there's still some tension and soreness, but it's the kind that can be expected from working out.

I felt amazing. Can I officially call myself a runner now?
